HEAVY METALS CONTENT AND HEALTH RISK ASSESSMENT OF IKPE IKOT NKON RIVER, AKWA IBOM STATE, NIGERIA

Heavy metals in water pose detrimental consequence on health of the consumers and aquatic organisms. Metallic pollutants drinking leads to dysfunction organs systems body with other associated risk conditions. Study heavy metal content assessment from Ikpe Ikot Nkon River was carried out between October 2020 September 2021 (twelve months), evaluate suitability river for human consumption. Eight were assessed samples collected three stations using atomic absorption spectrophotometer after digestion. The findings compared Nigerian Standard Drinking Water Quality. mean concentration some (Mn, Cr, Ni, Cd, Fe Pb) exceeded permissible limits due anthropogenic activities seasonal influences. non-carcinogenic indicated that chronic daily intake (CDI) hazard quotient (HQ) values Cr oral toxicity reference dosage threshold value 1respectively. index (HI) high all above (1). results (Mn,Cr,Ni,Cd,Fe Pb), CDI HQ Fe, HI calls concern regarding their effects health, which could be people this river.
